About BPW-Berlin e.V.

Business and Professional Women – Berlin e.V. supports and mentors women in their professional and occupational advancement and represents their interests. The non-profit club is a non-partisan, non-secretarian organisation spanning all kinds of occupations and employments. It addresses gainfully employed women and understands itself as a local, national and international network. BPW-Germany was formed as Deutscher Verband berufstätiger Frauen e.V. in Berlin in 1931. However, under the pressure of the political circumstances at that time, the association suspended its activities in 1938. At the beginning of the fifties, Feb. 11th, 1950 the club constituted itself anew.

BPW- Berlin – represented nationally and internationally

The club is a member of BPW Germany (www.bpw-germany.de)with more than 1,800 members in 41 German cities. More than a quarter of a million members are linked worldwide in more than 106 countries via the international women’s network (www.bpwintl.com) Furthermore, BPW-Berlin e.V. has representatives at the Landesfrauenrat Berlin and is additionally represented in the Deutscher Frauenrat via BPW Germany. As a non-governmental organisation, the international association has consultative status with a multitude of UN Committees (e.g. UNESCO, WHO, INSTRAW), and also permanent representatives at the UNO as well as at the International Labour Office (ILO) in Geneva and the Council of Europe (CoE) in Strasbourg. Since 1990, BPW International has been represented in the European Woman’s Lobby (EWL) in Brussels by one representative.

How members meet

• Every first Thursday of the month, contacts are established and fostered.
• On the occasion of regular specialised events, female experts from economy, politics, and society offer the opportunity to further one’s education and to form opinions. (events)
• Guided tours provide the chance of special insights into culture, economy, and politics
• Members meet in working groups partitioned according to special subjects for active cooperation
